Plastic trays do not fit and fan is making the most annoying whining noise

I istalled the swap cage to make my life easier but tis product quality is terrible.For some reason the plastic trays dont fit inside the cage. It actually scratched two of my hard disks since there are short metal thigs sticking out inside the cage. Plus the fan quality is bad. as it gives out a very annoying shine when its running.

Its in the title, It just works.i got this a few months ago, filled it with 6 2tb SSDs, hooked it all up to my sata ports, and it hasnt even stuttered since. i dont know how well its going to last, but it doesnt look like its going to break anytime soon.I can complain about stuff, but it does right what really matters to me. It was super easy to install, i filled it with drives before putting the bay in the pc, and hooked up all the connectors, if i remember correctly, the power sata cable can be difficult to plug in because the data sata can be in the way. Once its installed, it just works, 24/7 operation for months now.sure the quality is cheap plastic, the hinges can get stuck on pulling out a drive. the screw holes arent very well thought out. you can screw into a drive when mounting this to your 5.25 bay, it wont break the drive, just make it impossible to take the drive out normally, so be carefull about that, check where all your screws are going.But it just works.

UPDATE: After 2 months of 24/7 use the fans were making a horrible noise. Bearing failure most likely. Swapped in the Noctua fans as suggested in another review (https://a.co/d/4L6KkFL) and back to quiet operation. No other issues yet, with the Samsung ssd my drive temps have been around 30-34c depending on system activity.The 6 bay SFF (2.5") Icy Dock enclosure seems decent product and does what it claims to do well. From what I gather it's a reputable brand but unfortunately the quality just isn't there. I didn't have an issue with drive fitment or function in my testing with new Samsung SSD or some older (circa 2009) 250GB spinning drives. I did however have an issue with a power connector as seen in the photo attached (first picture). The locator tab broke off one of the sata power plugs. I didn't even know it broke to begin with until I unplugged it. Had it orientated correctly and it went right in. So far no issues with any of the data plugs. The first time I installed a drive after having seen the power plug break I was unsure if the plug for a drive would break as well. I have to admit, it did seem sketch at first but so far no drive plugs have broken to my knowledge.Really the only major functional issue I have found is with the fans installed, I'm unsure if the power plug will be useful for the left bank of drives. On my test machine with a seasonic power supply the wires come out the side (second photo), and with the correct orientation it can barely plug in with the fan installed. While writing this review I gave it another look and I was able to plug it in, but barely, and I mean barely. The wires were definitely putting pressure on the connection and that locator tab has also started to break off. I'll see what I have to work with on the machine this will be installed in, but I fear I'll be making a return. A shame because it is a good product with just some bad quality plastic and limited on space unfortunately.I did spot in one review the fans were really loud and they recommended some Nocula fans. I thought sure, those are small fans I'll get some at the same time. I personally didn't think the fans were loud at all. I didn't even have it properly installed, just sitting in the bottom of the case hanging out the side and I didn't really notice the fans, and those were the only fans in my test system. Setting the switch to high did cause them to become apparent but not too bad. Perhaps on auto with heavy drive activity they tend to ramp up and down which could be very annoying. While writing I noticed I had the switch set to low for my testing and the warmest I seen was 40c. So maybe upgraded fans would be better, I'm not sure. What would be an improvement however is if the speed was linear rather than either 60% or 100%. Low is 60, high is 100, and auto is low at 40c and below according to the literature in the box.The seller I purchased from was buywee and shipped from Amazon. Perhaps I ended up with a Chinese clone, I'm not sure. I don't know much about this Icy Dock company other than they claim to have big names using their hardware and I've seen their products recommended by others on a few occasions. I purchased this after following a link from the Serve the Home forum on the 4 drive model. I thought that's exactly what I need and did some clicking around until I found this 6 bay unit and thought even cooler yet. I'll update this review if it ends up working out or if I have to return it. The system I purchased this for is an HP z640.

Used a pair of these and a SAS card to augment the 4 internal Sata ports on my motherboard to create a NAS with 12 reclaimed 2.5" laptop drives. The toolless trays allows easily replacing malfunctioning drives to affect repairs. ZFS raid provides data security. Holes and screws are provided so drives can be secured to the trays if desired but are not required. Each tray provides an led that lights steady to indicate the presence of a drive and flashes during drive activity. The unit is well designed and parts fit together well, but are maybe not rated for repeated removal and insertion. The cooling fans move adequate air to keep drives cool even during heavy activity. They fit well in 5 1/4 inch drive bays and attach with two Sata power cables and six Sata data cables.

Works great on my NAS. I mainly use old laptop hard drives so this is perfect for a 5.25” bay. The fan is audible so I keep my system in another room. The cables can be a bit tricky to plug in with the fans and depending on the location of your drive bay. Overall, fantastic enclosure. Might grab a second in the future. Much better than the cheaper alternative an amazon that killed two of my drives.

It does what they say it will do. It allows you to install 6 2.5" SSDs into a 5.25" slot if you have one of those slots. The drive bays are hot swappable and works. I've installed 5 SSDs into it and they work as expected. Probably not the fastest bay around but I haven't had any issues with the drives being recognized. It passes the serial numbers of each drive to the OS that you're using so if you're running something like TrueNAS or Openmediavault then then you will be fine configuring the drives anyway you want. I do wish the trays were metal and not plastic. I would screw the drives to the trays as the tooless option isn't all that secure. Not an issue as long as you don't pull the drive out of the bay.May purchase again in the future

Quality is alright for this product that is meant to provide easy access to replace drives. I can't say it's good enough for applications that require you to regularly remove drives. The parts are plastic, and the tolerances aren't good enough. One of my drives didn't fit in one hole, but could easily fit the other. But overall it works, it's affordable, it looks great and it saves a lot of space and maintenance time.The built-in fan helps with temps. It is not noisy, not not silent either. You can easily swap it with a Noctua one.
