We were taking a trip and I wanted a decent zoom for our D3100. Some other reviews mentioned issues with this model, but I didn't see why as they are all Nikkor lenses and my D3100 was fully updated to current/last firmware version. I have a 55-200 DX VR, but wanted the extra range. Got the lens, put it on and no autofocus, no manual focus. I returned the lens and am still on an almost 2 week refund process, so make note of that if you think you need to return. To go further with this I brought a full camera set D3400 with this same 70-300 lens from another auction site. That lens worked fine with the D3400 I picked up. Move it to the D3100 I still have and doesn't work. So my 1 star rating isn't for the lens, which when it works is nice, but for some reason these seem to have issues on D3100's. The lenses I have with the D3100 that work are both AF-S which is older focus system. These newer lenses are AF-P so not sure if that plays into it. The D3100 we still have is in very limited use condition and functions fine with standard 50MM standard and the 55-200 that came with it so I don't believe it has any thing to do with my camera.
